Jesus said, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
We awoke this morning, inadvertently opposite the entrance to some gates. We saw an absolute fortune in fast car’s being waved and directed in through the gates. Maclarens, Porsche’s, Audi R8’s, Ferrari’s, Mercedes etc. all roared through.
In the light of day I realised that we had parked opposite the “Super Car’s Drive Days “ event at Howlett End Cambridgeshire .
They were soon followed by a procession of eager enthusiasts and participants, all presumably paying high prices for the pleasure of driving an expensive car at high speeds.
We must have looked a strange sight. On one side of the road SUPERCAR > FOLLOW SIGN, on the other side , tour bus with a man and dog having tea and toast with a handdrawn sketch depicting Jesus praying on the other side.
In the gospel of Mark 8:34-38 & Luke 9:23-27, Jesus says, “For whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My word’s in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels,”
Can a man gain the whole world? The answer is quite obvious, no, but he can surely lose his own soul by trying!
In Matthew 10 : 38, Jesus said,” And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.”
Life is often about choices of who, what, or which way we follow. Following Jesus may not be the popular, extravagant, exciting choice, but He is the Only way to salvation.
