Zechariah 14:16 “And it shall come to pass that every one that is left of all the nation’s which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of Tabernacles.”
Today, I awoke in a beautiful house in Pisgat Ze`ev, Jerusalem. The home of Roy and Marie Kendall, by inclusional invitation of our friends from Rochdale. Their son Chip Kendall is a worship leader at Audacious Church in Manchester. The sun was hot as we took the super efficient electric tram into the heart of Jerusalem, the Old City.
This was my first time in Jerusalem and nothing that I have ever read or seen could have prepared me for the experience! It was tremendous!
We entered the Old city through the vast walls by the aperture known as the Damascus Gate. I was instantly taken aback by the network of stalls and narrow shops selling arrays of clothes, shoes, watches, food, spices etc. Along the high walled network of streets in the walled city. After buying a small map to help navigate, we headed for the Western / Wailing wall. This is the holiest site of the Jewish faith, the only remaining wall of the Second Temple.
In 70 AD , when Titus destroyed the rest of the Temple, he left this small section standing to show the world the greatness of the Roman soldiers. During the Roman period, no Jews were allowed in Jerusalem, but they were allowed to come once a year during the Byzantine period to mourn their dispersion and weep over the ruins of their holy site, thus the name the wailing wall.
From there we went out of the Stephens Gate which leads you out to the Mount of Olives and the garden of Gethsemane. With its `Grotto of Gethsemane`, reputed to be the place where Jesus was arrested after His betrayal by Judas.
To be honest, it’s impossible for me to be able to explain the spiritual effects and understanding of this amazing experience. I am quite frankly blown away.
What I can tell you is the heavy presence of military and armed police has little or no effect. It neither made me feel safe or unsafe, I am saved, a child of God, born again of the Spirit of God. There is no fear in my life anymore. Hallelujah!
I thank and praise the Lord for this wonderful opportunity to see Israel and God’s Holy city and I can only encourage ALL Christians to give true consideration in coming here if possible.
