Recently whilst in Israel, we came across an unusual looking animal mentioned in the Bible, the Rock Hyrax (Leviticus 11:5-6 & Proverbs 30:26). Its a curious looking thing, a little like a large guinea pig. It grows to about 10 lbs and up to about 2 ft in length. They generally live in packs of up to 80 and live in craggy areas. They like to rest and spend the majority of their time sunbathing. Often they are called Rock Rabbits as a nickname.
I know a homeless man who used to have a Robin redbreast as a sort of friend. I would talk to him as he sat in some bushes and the little robin would come and sit on his shoulder or sometimes his outstretched finger. Recently , a Robin has been visiting me every day, quite bravely as I always have my dog Bertie with me. As soon as I turn up during the day, he’s there. He’s been in my van, flying around, jumping on the front seats. I always feed him some bread, but I rather wondered if it was the same Robin and was he trying to tell me something?
I hadn’t seen my homeless friend for a couple of weeks and I no longer have a house. My homeless friend would call round to my house at least once a week. I have him in my phone listed as “?????? Robin”. A mutual friend was concerned about him too as they had not seen him either.
I wondered if God was using one of his creatures to tell me something? God can and will use any part of His creation whenever He chooses.
In the Holy Bible, God even gets a donkey to speak as he says to Balaam, “What have I done to make you beat me these three times!” in Numbers 22:25
In Genesis 8, Noah uses the Raven and the dove to search for dry land. God used Moses to send the plagues of animals against Pharoah. God used a whale to bring Jonah back to right relationship after he refused to obey and ran from God. God fed Elijah in the Kerith valley by ravens in 1 Kings 17.
Last Saturday morning, I was talking to a friend about a car in the car park with a front left puncture. The tyre was flat and ripped. Only an hour later, I saw 2 other cars being driven on front left flat tyres in quick succession. Not only that Bertie started limping along on his front left paw as we walked back from Norden. My car wouldn’t start!
I was praying and asking the Lord what was He trying to show me? It couldn’t all be coincidental could it ?
That afternoon, I shared this with my friend, this coincidental confusion.
Later the same day, I got a text message from the mutual friend to say our homeless friend had just visited her house and indeed, he has suffered a badly broken leg with 5 titanium pins in and he badly needs help. It also happens to be, his left leg!
I praise the Lord for His communication in ALL things great and small
