Nothing but the Cross of Jesus.
Today is the day that I reset my compass. I check my heading. I bring out the binoculars and focus on the direction that I am heading. Then I try to make the adjustments necessary to either stay on course or realign to get back on course. If I don’t, who will?
Thing is, I have to do this daily.
We went for a walk, not too far. You don’t really have to go far here to come to a crossroad and around here, a crossroad which is exactly that. Some roads that cross and there’s a cross to mark it. To make it stand out, to signify that at this point right here, at this time, you will need to make a decision of which way you are going to go. There are no signs, this is not a signpost, this is an unmarked crossroad, with the main difference being, that it is up to you to have predetermined which way is which. It will be entirely your choice, nobody can force you to one side or the other. Same as nobody, try as they might, can lull you or entice you to come this way or that. No, there can be no responsibility off loaded by saying one was either pushed or pulled. The same for that matter, can the blame or triumph be shared.
Did you know that true North and magnetic North are different directions? If you set your compass to North expecting to get to the North Pole and head exactly that way, you don’t actually get there, you miss the target by approximately 3 degrees.
There is a way to ensure of one’s direction is true. To be assured that the new heading is correct and the answer is often directly in front of us, and its
A CROSS CENTRED LIFE
When we look at the cross of Jesus, there lies our answer. There is our direction, because, when I come to look at it, there springs forth the question; what does it mean to me?
It is either EVERYTHING or NOTHING, there is no in between, there can be no half measures. I can only say that ‘Christ died for my sins on this cross at Calvary’ or say nothing at all. I either glory in the fact that ‘Christ died for me’ for there is nothing greater that has ever happened, or there is nothing to say!
And in there lies my direction. The more I look at the cross of Jesus Christ, the more I wonder. The clearer that it becomes in my life, the wondrous cross has to be at the centre. There is not enough room for other things, the wondrous cross needs to be embedded deeper in my life, I need to make way! As I sit here and tap away at the keys, slowly, I am acutely aware of these words as ‘The Cross’ buries into me deeper, it is an easy choice to make for there is no other way for me, but it is still a choice that only we can make!
Galatians 6:14 says; “But God forbid that I should boast in anything but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
