It is Better to Trust in The Lord (Part 2)

It is better to trust in the Lord (2)

Part 2

Yesterday I had written a post attempting to find the centre of the Bible with research. What I found was inconclusive, one set of facts wonderful,as they were did not come up with definitive answer. I thought I would have to look from a different angle. This I thought was necessary for me to look from as many angles as possible. To view things as I see, and eye God’s word from aloft as the most precious jewel refracts light from its many facets.

“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings to search out a matter.”

So leaving behind the search for the exact, calculated, written centre of the Bible I moved to the very centre. The heartbeat, Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His life and ministry, His death upon the cross at Calvary and his resurrection.

The Old Testament is all about the time leading up to Jesus. Jesus was there in the beginning, but from the beginning and then after the fall of man, man’s desperate need for a Saviour. After a gap of about 400 years the New Testament is all about the Saviour of the world until the end in Revelation. The whole of time on earth is now defined and calculated by time. Time is labelled, BC & AD. Before Christ and Anno Domini. Years are supposed to be calculated from the time of Christ’s virgin birth, however it is a well- known fact that there was a miscalculation counting backwards and it is probably 3 years out. Also Christ’s birth was not on December 25th, the date was used to pacify the multiple pagans whom celebrated their winter solstices and gods.

The Bible is truth, men just give facts.

So using time as the centre is not something that we can use accurately as things are not that specific. There is still some disagreement about the dates, years etc.. which is a little confusing to our minds. I have a little clock for my motor home. It is battery operated, a digital clock. I bought it because it tells me temperature and humidity, but mainly because of its accuracy, there may be times when the accurate time is vital to me, recently getting a ferry it was vital that I had the correct time, in a house you may have several clocks and appliances with the time constantly displayed. This little clock is supposedly extremely accurate though I am led to believe, it is radio linked to the atomic clock in Dusseldorf, reputedly the most accurate clock in the world! It is supposed to be accurate to within ¼ of second every 10,000 years!

Well, mine isn’t, it’s an hour out as I am in France, so I have to add an hour on every time I look at it! And how can that be, when they are not sure of the day or date or year of Jesus’s birth that they can now say that time is now measurably accurate?

What is absolutely reliable is Jesus’s birth, death and resurrection. So the centre of time can’t be His birth, it must be His death. Because it is at the cross which is the exchange, the transition of our sins. Where all of time before goes into that moment, when the lamb was slain, when Jesus died for all our sins upon the cross of Calvary hung between two robbers, with the chief priests stood there mocking, at that ninth hour when the Son of God was crucified, His body battered, bloodied and broken for all our transgressions, when He was pierced for our iniquities, when the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, when the sun was darkened, when Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.”

After this time, time as only been able to look back at that as the centre of time, all events leading up to that point, were changed forever, all things after, were changed forever, so it is at THE CROSS OF JESUS that I find the very centre of ALL things.

However, that fact is only my humble, amateur opinion. So, there is a couple of men who look at it slightly different to me, I have just found out, Martin Luther and Martin Lloyd Jones agree on one specific scripture;

Martin Luther says this is “the centre of the whole Bible.”

Martin Lloyd jones says this is “the most crucial scripture.”

 Romans 3:20-22; we read,

“Therefore, by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.”

This is SOLA FIDE. Saved by faith alone. It is NOT by the works of the LAW, NOT OUR’S, but the righteousness of Christ.

For it is by righteousness FROM God manifested. Faith being the sole instrument by which we acquire a righteous status IN CHRIST.

So, in conclusion, I would say that I have enjoyed this little search in the Bible, where some of the richest treasures of all are laid waiting to fill our hearts and souls, and around and on the way are many ‘facts’ that may be attractive and glitter and gleam, but that is all that they are, strip them away to leave the truth of the Bible and that is what we get. It is not just faith, it is ONLY faith in Jesus Christ, and His righteousness, for all who believe in Him, by which we can be saved, now that is the very centre, the throbbing beat of the heart of the Holy Bible. Truth.

God bless
